Requesting special consideration
How to make a request
Submit requests for special consideration via InTrain when you apply for an exam.
Special Consideration requests must include:
- formal request to the Chair, Committee for Examinations
- supporting documentation from treating health professionals
- a letter of support from your Director of Training or supervisor.
Requests will not be forwarded to CFE until all required documents are submitted along with your application form.
Pre-existing medical conditions
If you have a pre-existing medical condition, make a Special Consideration request at the time of application.
Examples of pre-existing medical conditions might be:
- the use of inhalers
- insulin pumps and sustenance
- visual magnifiers
- eye drops.
Pregnant applicants may require special consideration with respect to access to bathroom facilities and the need to eat to prevent nausea.
Changes after the exam application period closes
Changes to an application can only be made if exceptional circumstances apply (such as a significant change in personal circumstances or a medical condition that occurs after the examination closing date).
The Committee for Examinations has received many untimely requests for Special Consideration for pre-existing medical conditions following the application closing date. Late applications can have an impact on examination venue resources and personnel required to facilitate examination conduct.
Apply for special consideration for each exam attempt
A separate application for special consideration must be submitted for each examination and for each re-attempt (if any).
You are only required to resubmit supporting documentation if there is a change in circumstances.
Impact on marking
When considering requests for special consideration, the Committee for Examinations (CFE) will not grant adjusted marks for any aspect of an assessment or examination. If a candidate believes their performance is likely to be seriously affected by illness or other personal circumstances, they should consider withdrawing from the examination attempt or deferring their assessment submission.
