Entry requirements

To apply for the Fellowship Training Program, you need to meet the following minimum requirements.

Medical degree

Evidence of a medical degree, including certified copies of your academic record.

Australian trained doctors who complete their medical degree after 2023 are expected to hold the NFPMT Certificate of Completion.

24 months of general medical training 

A minimum of 24 months experience in general hospital training after your medical degree, for applicants commencing in 2025. 

In contrast to past requirements, applicants who wish to apply to the Fellowship Training Program must now complete a minimum of 24 months (2 years FTE) of prevocational medical training to be eligible. This requirement is applicable for all applicants who wish to commence a training rotation from 2025 onwards.

Registration as a medical practitioner

You must have current registration as a medical practitioner in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand.

If you have any special conditions, limitations, notations, undertakings or provisional requirements you must disclose these to the College when you apply.

Doctors in Aotearoa New Zealand must hold general medical registration without endorsement.
