The Medlicott Award

The Medlicott Award is designed to encourage achievements and excellence in research in Forensic Psychiatry by Advanced Trainees in Forensic Psychiatry, or Fellows who have recently attained the Advanced Certificate in Forensic Psychiatry.
Eligibility criteria
The award is open to Advanced Trainees in Forensic Psychiatry, or Fellows who have achieved the Advanced Certificate in Forensic Psychiatry within the 24 months prior to the award application deadline.
Applicants shall have completed meritorious research in the field of forensic psychiatry, either conducted within the Advanced Training program in Forensic Psychiatry or the subsequent two years after the granting of an Advanced Certificate. Research should have been performed at least partly in Australasia, within the two years prior to application for the Award.
Previous recipients of the Prize will not be eligible to receive the award on a further occasion.
Form of award
The prize includes:
- A$1200
- complimentary registration to the Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry Conference
- invitation to present at the Faculty conference
- a beautifully framed award certificate
- invitation to accept the award certificate at the College Ceremony during Congress.
The prize may be made to one person, or can be shared amongst two or more if their work is of equal merit. If shared, each recipient shall be entitled to an equal portion of prize money.
The prize does not include travel support for the recipient(s) to attend Congress or the Faculty conference.
How to apply
Fellows and Advanced Trainees who meet the criteria are required to submit an anonymised cover letter and an anonymised copy of their research work (which is the subject of the Award) before the due date.
Submissions may take the form of:
- the Advanced Certificate in Forensic Psychiatry Research Project
- a published article
- a draft article suitable for publication
- a 2–3 page structured synopsis.
Where there are multiple authors involved, the application must indicate the contribution of the
applicant’s work.
