The 2025 grants cycle is now closed. The program will reopen in mid 2026.

PhD Scholarships

The Foundation has three PhD scholarship programs to support PhD research in psychiatry by RANZCP members. All PhD scholarships are valued at up to $60,000.

• Barnett PhD Scholarship 

Two annual PhD scholarships made possible through the generosity of Dr Bryanne Barnett AM. 

• Foundation Partners PhD Scholarship 

An annual PhD scholarship made possible through the generosity of the RANZCP Foundation Partners.

• Trisno Family PhD Scholarship 

A biennial PhD scholarship made possible through the generosity of the Trisno family.

Grants for new researchers

• Beverley Raphael New Investigator Grant 

Funding for new researchers (Trainees and Fellows in their first five years post Fellowship) to undertake a small-scale study. Up to $6,000.

• Early Research Career Grant 

Funding for Fellows or Affiliates who are pursuing innovative research in psychiatry. Up to $10,000.

Proof of concept grants

• Catalyst Grant

Provides researchers at any career stage with funding to assist in preparing a pilot or proof of concept for a future study. Up to $5,000.

Sub-specialty grants and scholarships

• Barnett Early Parenting Research and Collaboration Grant

Funding to undertake a longitudinal research project that measures outcomes in early parenting. Closed.

• Pat, Toni and Peter Kinsman Research Scholarship

Biennial scholarship to support research into perinatal mood disorders in Australia and New Zealand. Up to $50,000.

• Psychotherapy Research Award

Encourages research in psychotherapy among trainees and recent Fellows. Up to $10,000.

• Sved Williams Scholarship 

Funding for research aimed at improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families; made possible through the generosity of A/Prof. Anne Sved Williams AM and Dr Tony William. Up to $50,000.

Indigenous leadership scholarship

• gamadji nanggit 

Support for the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander psychiatrists to increase their medical leadership skills.
