Dual certificates

Trainees and Fellows are able to undertake two Certificates of Advanced Training at the same time. Dual Certificate trainees and Fellows will be awarded both certificates upon satisfactory completion of all program requirements. 

Eligibility 

To be eligible, you must satisfy the selection criteria for both chosen certificates.  

Trainees 

If you are a trainee undertaking two certificates and Stage 3 of the Fellowship Program concurrently, you must follow the requirements for all three programs.  

Approval must be granted from both Directors of Advanced Training (DOATs) relevant to each certificate. 

Timing 

Recognition of concurrent training will only be done once you are accepted into Dual Certificate training.  

Dual Certificate training begins on the start date of the first certificate. 

Applications into Dual Certificate Training more than 12 months FTE after commencement of the first Certificate will impact your ability to complete both certificates in the minimum time allowable. 

You must complete each certificate within 6 calendar years of commencement, inclusive of any breaks in training and part-time training. 

Selection into the program  

If you have been selected for a Dual Certificate of Advanced Training you must notify the College.

How dual Certificates work 

• Trainees are not eligible to be awarded Dual Certificates until they have completed a minimum of 36 months of FTE training once accepted into Dual Certificate training.  
• Training time completed in one certificate prior to entering in the Dual Certificate will contribute to assessing minimum time Dual Certificate requirements. 
• If a post is assessed as meeting the requirements of two areas of practice, it can contribute concurrently to the time requirement of each certificate.  
• One end-of-rotation ITA form, with two EPAs attained every 6 FTE months must be completed for each Area of Practice. 
• You can apply and be awarded the first Certificate of Advanced Training at the completion of 24 months FTE training accredited for that Certificate’s area of practice and all other requirements for the first certificate, even if incomplete in the requirements for the second certificate. 
• If you withdraw from, or stop, one of the certificates at any point, a single certificate will only be awarded on the full completion of all requirements for the relevant program. 

Learning and development plan  

You must present a detailed learning plan to both DOATs describing how you will meet each certificate’s requirements.  In particular, you must outline your plans for rotations where requirements from both certificates will be achieved concurrently.  

The plan also needs to address: 

• proposed rotations for each area of practice 
• supervision 
• attainment of EPAs and the proposed entrusting supervisor(s), particularly in any rotations where EPAs from both certificates will be attained 
• your progress toward exams and other Fellowship training requirements  (if you are a trainee).
