The College is pleased to announce that the RANZCP Certificate of Postgraduate Training in Clinical Psychiatry will be launched on 2 September 2024, with applications opening in June. 

Funded by the Australian Government, the Certificate is a new program that aims to reduce workforce pressures and improve access to skilled mental health support in the Australian community.

The Certificate is designed for medical practitioners in Australia (PGY5+) who want to learn foundational concepts in psychiatry and develop practical clinical skills to assess and support patients who present with mental health conditions. It is best suited for general practitioners, rural generalists, emergency medicine physicians and other medical practitioners who assess and support the mental health of their patients.

The College Board recently approved the fee schedule for the program. For the inaugural year of the program, places will be limited, and applications prioritised based on established criteria. Participants undertake the Certificate alongside their usual day to day practice and do not have to complete any rotations or placements at designated accredited sites. During the program, participants’ learning will be supported by a Certificate Supervisor.

We are seeking applications from Fellows in Australia who would like to be involved in supervising and assessing participants completing the Certificate. Fellows will receive an honorarium for eligible activities.
