RANZCP Fellows recognised in Australia Day 2023 Honours List

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists is delighted that nine of our Fellows were recognised in the Australia Day 2023 Honours List. The following Fellows have received Australia Day 2023 Honours:

Officer of the Order of Australia (AO)

  • The late Professor George Patton (formerly of Victoria) – for distinguished service to psychiatry and developmental epidemiology, to youth health and wellbeing, and to mental health research
  • Emeritus Professor Bruce Tonge (Victoria) – for distinguished service to psychiatric medicine and research, to tertiary education, to youth, and to the community

Member of the Order of Australia (AM)

  • Professor Brian Kelly (New South Wales) – for significant service to medical education, and to professional organisations
  • Professor Helen Milroy (Western Australia) – for significant service to public health, and to the Indigenous community
  • Emeritus Professor Barry Nurcombe (Queensland) – for significant service to medicine as a psychiatrist, and to tertiary education

Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)

  • Dr Susan Blinkhorn (New South Wales) – for service to medicine as a psychiatrist
  • Dr Shailja Chaturvedi (New South Wales) – for service to medicine, and to the community
  • Clinical Associate Professor Edwin Harari (Victoria) – for service to medicine as a psychiatrist
  • Dr William Wright (New South Wales) – for service to medicine as a psychiatrist

The is the greatest number of members ever recognised in a single honours list, and the College is delighted to see the hard work and dedication of individual Fellows recognised and celebrated in this way. Honours of this nature also contribute to increasing the awareness and appreciation of psychiatry and the role of psychiatrists in the community.

The RANZCP congratulates all of them on this tremendous and well-deserved recognition.
