Dr Lara Gurgone
Lara is a psychotherapy-subspecialised psychiatrist with experience and interest in longer term psychodynamic psychotherapy, working within an eclectic human-centred frame. She has an interest in the intersection of the biological, psychological and social, and how this plays out in human feelings and experience. With a broad experience in varied private, public and NGO sectors, Lara works with numerous human conditions including depression, anxiety, gender dysphoria, trauma, dissociation, neurodivergence and psychosis.

As well as working clinically, Lara is Co-Director of Advanced Training in the Psychotherapies with the WA Branch of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and is a member of both the WA Faculty of Psychotherapy Committee and the bi-national RANZCP Subcommittee for Advanced Training in the Psychotherapies. Lara is committed to a high standard of psychotherapy training for all psychiatrists and is enthusiastic about providing sophisticated, relevant and broadening psychotherapy training. She completed the Advanced Training certificate in Psychotherapies in WA and is a strong advocate for fostering a sense of community and belonging among psychotherapist psychiatrists locally. Lara is an experienced, accredited psychotherapy supervisor for both the Psychotherapy Written Case and Group Supervisor in the WA metropolitan Psychiatry training program. She also provides ongoing individual supervision for trainees and psychiatrists, as well as broader mental health professionals.
