CPD for substantially comparable SIMG
SIMG on the Substantial Comparability Placement are required to maintain a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record and provide evidence of this to regulators.
This change was enacted by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
To make it as easy as possible for you to meet these requirements:
- RANZCP will be your default CPD Home.
- Most of your CPD requirements will be covered by your RANZCP comparability placement activities.
- Automated upload of draft activities will be used for most CPD tasks, requiring only a reflection on your learning to finalise and add to your record.
- As a SIMG you will gain access to the MyCPD online portal to record activities and view progress.
- No additional fees are payable (conditions may apply).
Who this applies to
All Specialist International Medical Graduates on the Substantial Comparability Placement.
How to complete CPD requirements
You will be automatically enrolled in the CPD program if it applies to you.
Your enrolment includes access to MyCPD, as well as resources, tools and support from the CPD Team.
The CPD Team can help you with:
- identifying activities that qualify for CPD hours or CPD exemption
- submitting CPD evidence via MyCPD
Activities completed as part of the Substantial Comparability Placement will be automatically recorded as draft activities for you to review, for example:
- case-based discussion
- 360-degree feedback preparation and discussion
- supervisor report meetings.
You can also self-report other activities such as self-guided learning.
More detail on activities and required hours can be found in the CPD Program Guide.
Timing
The start of the CPD program is aligned with the beginning of your substantial comparability pathway orientation period.
Your CPD program spans two to three calendar years, tailored to fit with the timing of your SIMG cohort.
Peer review group participation
You may already be part of a RANZCP CPD peer review group. This change means that you are officially considered a RANZCP member for this activity.
CPD statements and certificates
As a CPD participant, you will be provided with a Statement of Claim and a Completion Certificate when your requirements are done. These can be downloaded from MyCPD and used for Ahpra re-registration and workplace credentialling.
Exemptions
Depending on your cohort start and end dates, you may be exempt from certain CPD activities. Please refer to the CPD Program Guide for details.
Fees
There is no additional fee (conditions may apply) to be part of the RANZCP CPD program as a SIMG.
