Loneliness
Loneliness is often a central experience for people with mental illness and is a risk factor for poor mental and physical health. There is evidence to show that social connectedness and inclusion, in contrast, are protective factors.
Loneliness is associated with a range of other health consequences and social impacts including risk of suicide.
It is a priority issue for the RANZCP's Community Collaboration Committee who are developing a variety of resources on this key topic.
